O2 has followed the theme of other media companies, as it plans to launch its own paid TV service through its broadband service in Czech Republic and the UK. O2 is in the process of trials and deals to hopefully launch towards the end of next year. O2 are currently negotiating deals with media companies like Warner Bros, HBO and Paramount to provide on demand video channels on top of 55 digital channels. O2 also holds the exclusivity rights for National ice hockey, which is the most popular sport in Czech Republic.
O2 already have Be Broadband and now wants to run the pay TV via the broadband service. Many other broadband and mobile companies have started opening up business in the TV sector as they want to get more money out of companies by offering multi service packages. If O2's trials are successful they will go head to head with companies like BT, Sky and Virgin to get those multi use digital users. |
